Count the taps: the booking path most clinic owners have never walked themselves
Most clinic owners have never completed their own booking process as a stranger would. You know where everything is, so you skip steps without noticing. A prospective patient does not.
Here is the exercise worth doing this week. Open your phone, search the way someone in your suburb would, and count every tap from the moment you find the clinic to the moment a booking is confirmed. Do not use a saved link. Do not log in to anything.
Where the taps hide
The count is almost always higher than owners expect, because the steps that cost the most are the ones that feel invisible from the inside:
- Tapping through from a listing to a homepage, then hunting for the booking page
- A contact form that sends an enquiry rather than holding a time
- Being asked to ring during business hours when it is currently 9pm
- A booking link that opens a separate system asking for an account
Each of those is a place where interest quietly ends. Nobody complains. You simply never hear from them, which is why booking friction is so hard to notice from inside the business.
Why the number matters more than the design
A site can look excellent and still ask too much. The question is not whether the booking path is attractive - it is how many decisions the person has to make before their time is held.
That is also why a calendar that connects directly to the site matters. When availability is live on the page, the enquiry does not need a person in the middle copying details from a form into a diary, and the enquirer is not left waiting to find out whether the time they wanted was ever available.
What to do with the count
Write your number down. Then look at which taps exist because the patient needs them, and which exist because your systems have not been joined up. Those are two different problems, and only one of them is the patient's to carry.
Our three core services are built around closing that gap - capturing the enquiry when it happens and handing your team something they can act on, rather than losing it between steps. If you want to see how the pieces fit together, our how it works page walks through it.
